The City of Lomita is committed to providing City services for our residents and community. That’s why we are excited to launch Let’s Talk Lomita – an interactive communitywide discussion on Lomita community service priorities. This summer, the City conducted a community survey, where 73% of respondents said there is a need for additional funding for Lomita City services. Public safety services are at the top of the list of priorities per respondents to the survey.
Last year, there were over 350 reported property crimes. Lomita has, on average, about two public safety officers on patrol at a time for a population of close to 20,000 residents. The City is working to provide additional school, park and neighborhood public safety patrols and maintain response times, as well as allow the City sheriff’s department to continue fighting gang violence and maintain anti-gang programs for at-risk youth.
Lomita residents have identified the following City priorities:
Public works services are also on many Lomita residents’ minds. Lomita’s infrastructure is aging including stormwater and sewer pipes dating back to the early 1900s and city buildings that do not meet current state safety requirements. The City is working to make repairs and upgrades that will prevent stormwater and sewer pipe breaks and flooding; earthquake-retrofit and make city buildings accessible to people with disabilities; and maintain places for children to play.
The most recent independent road engineer’s study recently rated the condition of nearly one-third of Lomita’s streets as “fair,” “poor,” or “very poor.” It will be less expensive to repair the streets and fill potholes now than waiting until later.

Let’s Talk Lomita! Give us your feedback and join the community conversation on City service needs and priorities today.
Please take some time to rank the importance to you of City services from 1-6, with 1 being the most important.
