Here are some notable updates and upcoming events happening in and around Lomita:
Dutch Bros Announcement Generates Strong Community Buzz
The City’s announcement that Dutch Bros Coffee is coming to Lomita generated a lot of excitement this week and quickly gained attention both online and in the local media.
On Instagram, the announcement has already received more than 8,500 shares and 4,193 likes, making it one of the City’s strongest-performing social media posts. The high number of shares helped the news reach well beyond our existing followers and generated broader regional interest in Lomita. The announcement was also featured by KTLA as part of its coverage of Dutch Bros’ expansion into the South Bay.
It has been great to see such a positive community response and excitement surrounding a new business coming to Lomita.
Weekend Storm Preparations
In anticipation of this weekend’s rain, the City has restocked sand and sandbags for residents to use at the self-service sandbag station located in the City Hall parking lot.
Our weekend Community Services Officers will also monitor weather-related hazards and coordinate with the appropriate City crews or partner agencies as needed. Residents are encouraged to exercise caution in wet weather and to report significant roadway or public safety concerns through the appropriate channels.
Teen Program and Staff Receive Parent Commendation
The City recently received a very positive note from a parent whose son participated in the Lomita Park Teen Program for the first time this summer. The parent shared that the program provided a safe, structured and engaging environment, with opportunities for teens to participate in crafts, STEM projects, excursions and social activities. She also specifically recognized Teen Program Coordinator Julissa Monge for her dedication, professionalism and care for participants.
We are proud of the positive impact our Parks and Recreation team continues to have on local youth and families, and we appreciate community members who take the time to share their experiences with us.
