Dear Lomita Residents,
Here are some notable updates and upcoming events happening in and around Lomita:
Red Car Project Update
The City continues to coordinate with the Port of Los Angeles on the proposed Red Car project at the Lomita Railroad Museum. Site excavation is ready to begin once the Harbor Commission approves the Memorandum of Understanding. The City is also awaiting notification regarding a potential $100,000 grant through the Railroad Foundation.
The former boxcar site will be cordoned off for construction. This temporary closure of a portion of Annex Park will not affect Country Night.
Country Night at the Railroad Museum
Join us for Country Night on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 4-8 p.m. at the Lomita Railroad Museum! Enjoy approximately 20 local vendors, music, line dancing contests and western-themed activities for families of all ages.
Winter Storm Preparations
The City is preparing for winter storms by reviewing emergency response plans and coordinating resources. Preparations include bringing emergency on-call contracts to the City Council for consideration to support storm response and urgent street repairs. Additional information about the City’s preparations and steps residents can take will be shared in the coming weeks.
City Hall Parking Lot Solar Shade Project
Los Angeles County will begin constructing solar panel shade structures in the County-owned portion of the City Hall parking lot on October 12. Construction is anticipated to continue through late November.
Portions of the parking lot will be temporarily closed during construction, while other areas will remain available. The City will provide advance notice of parking restrictions, construction activities and any changes to access to help visitors plan ahead.
Community Safety Updates
The City’s E-Bike Safety Rodeo at Fleming Middle School will take place tomorrow, Sept. 19, providing local youth with hands-on safety education, including a Sheriff’s Department presentation, bike inspections and a riding skills course. The program supports responsible riding and greater awareness of the rules of the road.
Lomita Sheriff’s Station is also coordinating its Special Assignment Team, detectives and Community Resource Deputies to address catalytic converter thefts and vehicle burglaries. The City will share updates as they become available.
