Dear Lomita Residents,

As part of the City’s ongoing commitment to transparency and community engagement, below are several important updates and upcoming items of interest to residents.

Upcoming City Council Meeting

The upcoming City Council meeting on Tuesday will include several important items for community consideration, including:

  • A proposed ordinance related to electric bicycle (e-bike) safety and regulation
  • The City’s Water Storage Conversion project, an investment focused on strengthening Lomita’s long-term water reliability and water rights
  • Various zoning and land use amendments

Community members are encouraged to review the agenda materials once posted and participate in the meeting process. Visit the Agendas and Minutes webpage for more information.

Athens Services Rate Adjustment

Under the City’s solid waste agreement with Athens Services, annual rate adjustments take effect each July 1 in accordance with the terms of the franchise agreement. The adjustment formula includes Consumer Price Index (CPI) changes related to trash and garbage collection.

City staff and the City’s solid waste consultant reviewed the submitted calculations and verified that the proposed adjustments were applied correctly under the agreement terms. Athens Services will provide notices directly to customers and updated rates are posted on the Recycling and Waste Collection webpage.

Southern California Edison Drone Inspections

Southern California Edison will be conducting drone inspections throughout Lomita over the next several weeks as part of its wildfire prevention and infrastructure safety efforts. The inspections will focus exclusively on utility equipment such as poles, towers and electrical infrastructure to proactively identify maintenance or safety concerns before they become larger issues.

Lomita Park Playground Nearing Completion

Construction of the new playground at Lomita Park is nearing completion. Final inspections and walkthroughs are scheduled over the coming days, and if all proceeds as planned, the playground is anticipated to open in time for next week’s Follow Me, I’m Gang and Drug Free Walk event.

Class of 2026 Recognition

The City’s “2026 GRAD” display is now installed and illuminated nightly in celebration of Lomita’s graduating students. The display will remain up through July 6 as the community recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of the Class of 2026.

Large, white marquee letters spelling out 'GRAD 26' with built-in lightbulbs, set up on a concrete walkway on Lomita's City Hall campus. In the background are green trees and a modern brick building under a partly cloudy blue sky.
