Here are some notable updates that may be of interest to you.

Fiscal Year 2026-27 Budget Adoption

This week, the City Council will consider adoption of the Fiscal Year 2026-27 Budget. The annual budget is one of the most important documents the City produces, as it reflects the community’s priorities and serves as the roadmap for delivering services, maintaining infrastructure, and investing in Lomita’s future.

I am proud to share that the proposed budget is balanced, fiscally responsible, and supports one of the most ambitious capital improvement and service programs in the City’s history. This accomplishment is the result of thoughtful planning, strong financial management and the collaborative efforts of City staff, the City Council and our community.

As we look ahead to the coming year, I also want to recognize the residents of Lomita for their continued support of local funding measures. That support has helped the City maintain essential services, invest in public safety, improve infrastructure and advance projects that enhance quality of life throughout our community.

We remain committed to responsible stewardship of public funds and ensuring that every dollar is invested wisely to serve our residents today and into the future.

Cypress Water Facility Update

We are excited to report another major milestone for the Cypress Water Facility. Next week, staff will begin testing the first batch of treated water using the new Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) treatment system.

Once laboratory results are received, staff will use the data to fine-tune system operations before presenting findings to the Water Subcommittee and moving toward restarting the facility.

In addition, after years of planning, design, construction and regulatory coordination, the facility is scheduled for its State Water Board inspection later this month. We are nearing the finish line and look forward to sharing more progress soon.

Lomita Park Playground Soft Opening

The new playground at Lomita Park is nearly complete and has reached a significant milestone. While a few minor adjustments and final touch-ups remain, the playground has been inspected and approved for public use. As a result, the temporary fencing has been removed and families are welcome to begin enjoying the new play equipment.

We consider this a “soft opening” and plan to celebrate the completed project with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony in the coming weeks once all remaining components have been installed.

Thank you for your patience throughout construction. We can’t wait to see children and families enjoying this exciting new addition to Lomita Park.

New Lomita Sheriff Station Wayfinding Signs

To enhance visibility and awareness of public safety resources, the City recently installed updated wayfinding signs directing visitors to the Lomita Sheriff Station along Pacific Coast Highway. These signs improve navigation for residents and visitors while reinforcing the presence of law enforcement in our community.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the new signs the next time you’re traveling along PCH.

Thank You, St. Margaret Mary Students

A few weeks ago, City Hall had the pleasure of welcoming second-grade students from St. Margaret Mary School for a special visit.

Recently, the students surprised us with a wonderful collection of artwork expressing what they learned during their visit and highlighting the presentations they received from the Mayor and City staff. Their creativity and enthusiasm were truly appreciated, and we thank them for taking the time to share their work with us.
