The City of Lomita is proud to recognize two outstanding team members whose dedication, professionalism and commitment to service exemplify excellence in public service. At the City’s annual employee recognition, Jorge Calderon was named Full-Time Employee of the Year and Dacia Bello was honored as Part-Time Employee of the Year for their exceptional contributions to the community and their colleagues.
Full-Time Employee of the Year: Jorge Calderon
Jorge Calderon joined the City of Lomita in May 2021 as a Part-Time Maintenance Worker and quickly demonstrated a strong work ethic. He was promoted to Full-Time Maintenance Worker I in October 2021 and advanced to Maintenance Worker II in October 2022.
As a valued member of the Public Works team, Jorge performs a wide range of maintenance activities essential to keeping Lomita safe and clean. His responsibilities include park maintenance, tree trimming, sidewalk and asphalt repairs, traffic control and equipment operation. He also regularly supports citywide projects, special events and emergency response efforts, including water main repairs.
Jorge is consistently recognized by supervisors and colleagues for taking initiative and being a reliable team player. His professionalism and strong work ethic have earned praise not only internally but also from community members and local businesses, including unsolicited recognition for the quality of his work.
Part-Time Employee of the Year: Dacia Bello
Dacia Bello began her career with the City of Lomita in September 2018 as a Part-Time Recreation Leader in the Parks Division, where she coached youth sports and supported recreation programs and services. In July 2021, she transferred to the Museum Division, playing a key role in supporting the reopening of Lomita’s Railroad Museum following COVID-19 closures. In December 2023, Dacia transitioned to City Hall as an HR Intern and in March 2025, she was promoted to Part-Time Office Assistant.
In her current role, Dacia provides front-desk and administrative support across multiple City departments, including the City Clerk, Administrative Services and Public Works. She assists residents and visitors with inquiries, services and merchandise purchases, while also supporting employee-focused initiatives throughout the organization. In addition, Dacia contributes creative design materials used for City flyers, social media platforms and website content.
Dacia is widely recognized for her can-do attitude and willingness to take on new projects. Her positive approach and commitment to service make her a valued resource to both staff and the community.
