The City of Lomita is proud to share that it has begun the process of taking ownership of the former U.S. Navy baseball fields located at 26800 S. Western Avenue. This transfer, made possible through federal legislation and the support of Congressman Ted Lieu and Congresswoman Nanette Barragán, represents an important step forward in expanding recreational opportunities for Lomita residents.

In the coming months, the City will evaluate the condition of the fields and surrounding facilities and develop a plan for improvements that align with community needs and available resources. Lomita is committed to ensuring this property remains a safe, welcoming and sustainable space for generations to enjoy.

More updates will be shared as the project moves forward.

Project Summary

Through the National Defense Authorization Act of 2025, the City of Lomita has initiated the transfer of approximately six acres of land from the U.S. Department of the Navy, nearly doubling the City’s existing recreation space. The site, now known as the Lomita Sports and Community Center, includes youth baseball fields and related amenities that have been a part of Lomita’s history for decades.

Initial planning efforts will focus on upgrading essential infrastructure, including bleachers, fencing, restrooms, electrical systems and the snack bar, to meet modern recreation and accessibility standards.

The City will continue to engage residents and regional partners as it defines investment priorities, timelines and the long-term vision for the future of the Lomita Sports and Community Center.
