In 2024, the City of Lomita reached a remarkable milestone–60th anniversary. To honor six decades of growth, resilience, and community spirit, the City hosted a series of events throughout the year, bringing together residents, visitors and local businesses for unforgettable celebrations.

The diamond anniversary celebrations began in June with Founders Day on Narbonne Avenue, transforming the heart of Lomita. Attendees enjoyed live music, food trucks, craft vendors, game booths, a petting zoo, carnival rides and endless family fun. At the end of the night, the City presented a spectacular fireworks show that wowed the crowds and marked the beginning of a historic celebration.

As summer continued, Lomita hosted concerts on the front lawn of City Hall, where residents gathered to enjoy performances by local favorites such as Upstream and 80’s All-Starz. These summer concerts created a welcoming atmosphere, bringing families and friends together for evenings of live entertainment. The City also hosted Movies Under the Stars, screening “The Goonies” and “The Mighty Ducks,” giving families a nostalgic and laid-back way to celebrate Lomita’s milestone year.

In September and October, the City introduced new and returning community traditions with the inaugural Cornhole Tournament and the 15th annual Mayor’s Cup Golf Tournament. Both events supported Lomita youth recreation programs, with the Cornhole Tournament also benefiting the Tom Rico Foundation. Participants enjoyed a spirited yet friendly competition while supporting meaningful causes that benefit the local community.

Lomita’s anniversary celebrations continued into November with the State of the City event, hosted in partnership with the Lomita Chamber of Commerce. With a record-breaking turnout, the event provided an opportunity to reflect on the City’s progress, honor its past and look ahead to a bright future.

Additional events throughout the year honored the City’s rich history and strong community ties. Families participated in the Monster Dash and Spooktacular Festival, while the National Night Out and Car Show brought residents together to strengthen relationships with local law enforcement. The Veterans Day Ceremony paid tribute to those who served, and the Tree Lighting Ceremony welcomed the holiday season with festive cheer.

Lomita’s 60th anniversary was a true celebration of the City’s past, present and future. Through festivals, tournaments, concerts, and family-friendly activities, the City reaffirmed its strong sense of unity and pride. As residents reflected on Lomita’s remarkable journey, they also looked forward to continuing the legacy of community and growth for generations to come.
