The City of Lomita is implementing updates to its street sweeping and trash collection services to improve efficiency and respond to community feedback. These changes are designed to reduce debris on City streets, improve parking availability during sweeping hours and provide more consistent service throughout the community. Full implementation of the revised street sweeping and trash collection services is scheduled for April 1.

Trash Collection Updates

As part of the updated program, trash collection service has expanded from three days per week to five days per week. This change allows Athens Services, the City’s waste management provider, to conduct street sweeping without interference from trash and recycling bins left at the curb. It also enables crews to focus on smaller sections of the City each day and respond more effectively to unexpected issues.

Below is a map of the current (left) and proposed (right) trash collection service days.

Street Sweeping Updates

Under the revised street sweeping program, streets are categorized based on debris levels:

  • Priority A streets (primarily arterial roads) are swept weekly.
  • Priority B streets (most residential streets) are swept twice per month.
  • Priority C streets (alleys, City parking lots and low-debris streets) are swept once per month.

This tiered structure allows the City to better target resources and maintain cleaner streets citywide. View the updated street sweeping maps here.

The City will move forward with installing new street sweeping signs reflecting updated parking restrictions. To ensure a smooth transition, the City will work closely with Athens Services and provide a grace period during which signage will be temporarily covered to minimize confusion, allowing residents time to adjust to the new schedules.
