The City of Lomita is making big strides in creating safer and more enjoyable streets for our community. This past spring, Lomita celebrated the completion of two major projects: the Narbonne South Water Main Replacement & Street Reconstruction and the Zone G Street Reconstruction Phase 2.
Narbonne South Water Main Replacement & Street Reconstruction
This project involved replacing approximately 1,600 linear feet of PVC water pipeline on Narbonne Avenue, extending from Pacific Coast Highway to the southern City border. A new water main replaced the existing one from 1928, significantly improving water flow, pressure and fire protection for surrounding neighborhoods.
The project was completed in just over three months. In addition to the water main replacement and upgrades to other water system components (including pipes, hydrants and meters), the City also repaved the affected area, enhancing the road and improving driver safety.
Zone G Street Reconstruction Phase 2
In late March, City officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the second phase of this street improvement project. The streets in Zone G, located in the northeast part of the City — north of 253rd Street and east of Eshelman Avenue — are being rehabilitated in phases that involve full street reconstruction and asphalt overlay repairs.
The first phase, completed in early 2025, rehabilitated portions of Walnut Street, Turrell Street and Nordman Street. Phase 2, which took just over five months, included upgrades to portions of 240th Street, 241st Street, Stanhurst Avenue, Callison Street, Falena Avenue, 246th Street, 247th Street, Abita Avenue and 248th Street.
During Phase 2, construction crews added and upgraded ADA ramps, revamped curbs and gutters and reconstructed and striped pavement.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during the construction of both projects as Lomita works to enhance our community streets.
Looking ahead, the City is excited to begin two new projects in late summer and early fall.
Zone G Water Main Replacement
Starting in fall, Lomita will replace approximately 4,000 linear feet of water lines in Zone G. The project will affect 247th Street, Ebony Lane and Walnut Street — see the map for an overview of the impacted area.

Local Travel Network
Also in the fall, Lomita will begin construction on the Local Travel Network (LTN) project, a citywide initiative aimed at creating safer and more comfortable travel options throughout Lomita. The LTN is designed to connect neighborhoods to parks, schools, downtown Lomita and other nearby destinations through a network of low-speed streets suitable for bikes, scooters, neighborhood electric vehicles and other low-speed mobility options.
The LTN will consist of several local streets, including Eshelman Avenue, Pennsylvania Avenue, Ebony Lane, Walnut Street, Appian Way, 240th Street, 250th Street, 253rd Street, 254th Street, 255th Street, 262nd Street and more. On these designated LTN streets, Lomita will implement curb extensions, raised medians, high-visibility crosswalks and other traffic-calming features to reduce vehicle speeds and enhance visibility for all road users.

Both projects are currently still in the planning phase and construction dates have not been confirmed. More details, including timelines and specific affected streets, will be shared as we approach the start of construction.
