The City of Lomita continues to seek input on its transition from at-large elections to district-based elections. If the City transitions to district-based elections, Lomita residents would vote for representatives that would exclusively represent the district in which they reside (rather than voting for City Council representatives throughout the whole city).

The way district lines are drawn would determine which neighborhoods and communities are represented together by each Council Member. To ensure that the adopted districts reflect the interests of Lomita residents, community members are encouraged to share their input, draw their own maps and provide feedback on draft maps for the City Council to consider when making a final decision. The upcoming public meetings are scheduled as follows:

February 28, 2023 – Deadline for the public to submit maps for consideration at third public hearing
March 18, 2023 – The City of Lomita will hold an in-person community workshop at City Hall to give residents the opportunity to share input on where the district lines should be drawn and learn how to use the mapping tools to draw their own map.
March 21, 2023 – Lomita City Council will hold its third public hearing during the regularly scheduled City Council meeting. The City’s demographer will present draft maps including those submitted prior to the February 28th deadline and members of the public will have an opportunity to provide feedback on maps and share their input on preferred district boundaries.
April 4, 2023 – Final deadline for the public to submit maps.
April 18, 2023 – City Council will hold its fourth public hearing during the regularly scheduled City Council meeting. The City’s demographer will present final draft maps submitted by April 4, 2023 to be considered and the City Council may select a map for adoption.
May 2, 2023 – Should the City Council choose to select a map for adoption, the City Council will hold the second reading of the ordinance during its regularly scheduled City Council meeting.
