The City of Lomita would like to extend its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Daniel Okamoto of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Okamoto tragically passed away in an off-duty collision on April 12, 2024.
With a foundation that began with the Carson Sheriff’s Department Explorer Program fostering the skills and leadership for a future career in law enforcement, Deputy Okamoto demonstrated exemplary leadership as a valued member of the Lomita Sheriff’s Station. Since joining the Sheriff’s Department in 2017, he distinguished himself as a training officer, a member of the sheriff’s tactical response team, and a CORE deputy assigned to the City of Lomita.
A selfless and devoted deputy whose commitment was to protect and serve his community, Deputy Okamoto excelled in his role as he seamlessly fit in with Lomita. Lomita residents grew very fond of Deputy Okamoto and welcomed him in his new role. From community events to random visits to our Good Timers Club at Lomita Park, his charisma and charm showed how deeply he cared about connecting with the people he served.
The impact he made resonated profoundly throughout our community, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Sheriff Luna praised Deputy Okamoto “for his professionalism, humility and unwavering commitment to his friends and colleagues”.
Deputy Okamoto will truly be missed, and his legacy will forever be imprinted. May his dedication and bravery serve as a guiding light for future generations of law enforcement. He leaves behind his grandmother, parents, and his brother.
Rest in peace. EOW 4/12/24
