Attention Lomita Residents! Three major construction projects are scheduled to start across the City this summer. For everyone’s safety, please drive carefully around these areas and avoid them when possible.

Project Details, Impacted Areas and Timelines:

247th Street Area Water Main Replacement Project

Project Description:

This project involves abandoning the water main in the 247th Street area, running north and south through private properties and crossing 246th Street, 247th Street, 247th Place and 248th Street. The current water mains, constructed in 1928, are prone to breaks and leaks due to their age. The new water main will extend from 246th Street beyond City boundaries, loop within the City of Los Angeles right-of-way along Western Avenue and reconnect with the City of Lomita along 247th Street, 247th Place, 248th Street and Lomita Blvd. This project includes the construction of approximately 3,300 linear feet of 6-inch PVC water pipeline, along with necessary additions such as fire hydrants, valves, services and fittings.

Areas of Impact:

  • Along 247th Street, 247th Place, 248th Street and Lomita Blvd
  • The intersection of Lomita Boulevard and Western Avenue will be particularly affected.

Timeline:

The project is slated to begin in early July and will continue until March 2025.

Additional Notes:

Drivers should be vigilant and follow all traffic signs in the construction area. The contractor will install variable message signs approximately one week before work begins.

Zone G Street Reconstruction Project

Project Description:

Zone G in the City of Lomita, located in the northeast part of the City north of 253rd Street and east of Eshleman Avenue, has many roads in need of rehabilitation. The latest findings from the Pavement Management Plan identified the streets in Zone G as having some of the worst pavement conditions in the City. This project will be executed in phases, primarily involving full street reconstruction with some areas receiving asphalt overlay repairs.

Areas of Impact:

The first phase of construction will commence on Walnut Street, Turrell Street and Nordman Street.

Timeline:

This project is anticipated to begin in August and is expected to last approximately four months, concluding in December.

Sidewalk Repair Program Project

Project Description:

In November 2021, the City Council adopted a Sidewalk Inspection Policy to manage its 57 miles of sidewalks. Since then, the Public Works Department has conducted annual inspections and completed 521 sidewalk repairs, which included ramping, grinding, and single panel replacements.

Upon further assessment, it was determined that 27 additional locations require extensive repairs that will demand significant time and effort. In some cases, sidewalk repairs will also require the repair or modification of driveway aprons to comply with Lomita Municipal Code Sec. 11-1.66.07 (C).

Areas of Impact:

27 separate locations will be affected as shown in the list below:
