Arbor Day may have passed on April 25, but the commitment to maintaining a healthy urban forest remains a year-round priority in the City of Lomita. The City takes great pride in caring for its trees, and the Public Works Department is available to assist with a variety of tree-related concerns, including trimming, inspections and health assessments.

Tree Trimming & Inspection

If you notice a tree that needs trimming or inspection, please keep in mind that tree maintenance on public rights-of-way is managed exclusively by the City in accordance with local regulations. Both City staff and contractors handle tree trimming and removal to ensure public spaces remain safe and well-maintained. In addition, the Public Works Department regularly inspects trees to assess their health and structural integrity, taking necessary action when concerns arise.

Tree Risk & Health Assessments

To further safeguard the community, the Public Works team performs risk and health assessments to evaluate trees for potential safety hazards. If a tree appears unhealthy or damaged, or poses a safety risk, these assessments help determine the appropriate course of action.

Residents are encouraged to report tree-related concern to the Public Works Department:

  • Call during business hours at (310) 325-7110, ext. 155.
  • Email pictures or details to PublicWorks@LomitaCity.com.
  • For urgent tree issues outside regular hours, call (310) 597-6429.

By working together, we can continue to preserve Lomita’s urban forest, ensuring a safe, green and thriving community.
