Dear Lomita Residents,

As we head into the weekend, we wanted to share a few recent updates, community highlights and ongoing City efforts taking place throughout Lomita.

Positive Community Feedback

We’re proud to share that Parks and Recreation staff recently received a thoughtful compliment from a park patron recognizing the care and service provided by City staff. Positive feedback like this is always appreciated and serves as a reminder of the meaningful impact our employees have on the community each day. Kudos to the entire team for continuing to create welcoming and enjoyable experiences for our residents and visitors.

Regional BMX Cycling Event Coordination

Community Safety staff recently participated in a regional coordination call with neighboring Peninsula cities regarding a large BMX cycling event expected to travel through portions of the South Bay. The ride is expected to include hundreds of cyclists moving through the Peninsula, including areas of Lomita. To help ensure public safety and minimize disruptions, the cities of Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills Estates and Lomita and law enforcement partners coordinated operational plans focused on traffic management and safe movement of participants. Riders are expected to move through Lomita relatively quickly, primarily along Western Avenue, with minimal impacts anticipated if coordination efforts remain successful.

New Bicycle Racks Coming to Lomita

The City has identified $7,375 in available Transportation Development Act (TDA) funds. Staff plans to use the funding to purchase and install approximately 15 bicycle racks throughout the community to support active transportation, improve first- and last-mile connectivity and advance the City’s mobility goals. Proposed installation locations include City Hall, the Lomita Park and Ride, the Lomita Railroad Museum, Hathaway Park, Narbonne Plaza and Lomita Park.

Street Sweeping and Trash Collection Update

City staff recently met to review implementation of the updated street sweeping and trash collection routes, now one month into the transition. Overall, community concerns have remained limited, reflecting the extensive planning and coordination efforts completed by staff and Athens Services. Monitoring efforts will continue as the City evaluates operational conditions and identifies opportunities for refinement where appropriate.

The Wednesday and Thursday routes have been fully posted, while portions of the Friday routes remain pending due to delays in receiving signage and stickers from the vendor. The remaining materials are anticipated to be installed by next week.

New Addition at Lomita Park

Visitors to Lomita Park may notice a fun new addition recently installed along the fencing at the park. Be sure to check out the new decorative fence cups during your next visit!

A chain-link fence at Lomita Park featuring a large sign that reads "Lomita Park" with a palm tree icon, created using blue, green, and white plastic cups.
