These Updates from the City Manager are designed to keep Lomita residents informed about the City’s ongoing projects, programs and priorities. These updates provide timely information on community improvements, public safety efforts and infrastructure investments, along with highlights of recent accomplishments and what’s coming next.

Published every two weeks, the Updates from the City Manager aim to offer transparency into City operations and ensure residents stay connected to how Lomita is working to enhance the quality of life across the community.

Dear Lomita Residents,

Our teams continue working across the community to maintain critical infrastructure and improve City services. Below are important updates.

Street Sweeping and Trash Collection Changes Effective April 1

Our dedicated Public Works team is actively installing new street sweeping parking restriction signs throughout the City. The installation marks the beginning of a grace period to help our community prepare for the upcoming changes. During this time, Community Safety Officers (CSOs) will be distributing informational flyers instead of issuing parking tickets for street sweeping violations. The flyers include a QR code linking to our informational webpage with schedules, maps and details about the changes.

Implementation Timeline:

Now through March 31

  • New street sweeping signs are being installed citywide.
  • Signs will remain covered during the grace period.
  • CSOs will distribute informational flyers instead of citations.

April 1

  • New street sweeping restrictions and new trash collection routes will officially begin.
  • Signs will be uncovered.
  • CSOs will issue warnings to help residents adjust to the new schedule before standard parking enforcement related to street sweeping begins.

Narbonne South Water Line Replacement and Street Reconstruction Project

A planned water pipe connection near Lomita Station has been delayed after crews discovered that the existing water line was not located as indicated in the project plans and did not meet the required six-foot clearance. Crews are currently connecting service lines to meters, which may result in temporary water service interruptions. Residents affected by this work will receive advance notification.

Street Vending Enforcement

While sidewalk vending is permitted under California law, vendors are required to obtain City permits and County Public Health approvals before operating. Previously, vending setups have included canopies, tables and hot cooking equipment that block the sidewalk, reduce accessibility and create safety concerns. Community Safety and Code Enforcement Divisions will be monitoring locations and may intervene prior to set up when necessary. The City’s goal is to ensure that public health standards are maintained, sidewalks remain accessible and businesses that follow the permitting process are treated fairly.

Thank you for your continued support as we work to maintain and improve our community.

If you have any questions, please visit us at City Hall or call (310) 325-7110.

Warm Regards,

Andrew Vialpando
