Captain Guerrero from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Lomita Sheriff’s Station and the City’s Community Safety Division presented the latest crime statistics and public safety updates during a recent City Council meeting.

Overall, crime levels in Lomita remain relatively stable. While certain areas continue to require focused attention, strategic enforcement and investigative efforts are producing measurable results. Community safety efforts and visible patrol presence remain central to maintaining public safety. The City will continue evaluating and implementing prevention strategies to proactively address emerging trends. Strong coordination among City departments further supports proactive engagement, improves responsiveness, and enhances quality of life for residents and businesses.

CORE Deputy & Community Safety Efforts

Community-oriented safety efforts remain a key part of Lomita’s public safety strategy. Over the past year, the Lomita Station’s Community Resource (CORE) Deputy program has addressed resident concerns while providing outreach and connecting with individuals to services in coordination with City departments. The program has supported business compliance through education and enforcement efforts, and partnered with the City’s Code Enforcement Division to uphold community standards. Engagement with local schools, youth and businesses has included safety presentations, security assessments and fraud prevention. A consistent presence at Neighborhood Watch meetings, community events and City-sponsored activities has helped strengthen relationships and maintain visibility. Together, these efforts continue to promote safety, trust and collaboration across the Lomita community.

Community Safety Division Quarterly Update

The City of Lomita established the Community Safety Division (CSD) in August 2025 in response to growing concerns related to quality of life, traffic, parking and neighborhood issues. The division focuses on proactive, non-emergency public safety efforts, allowing sworn law enforcement personnel to prioritize higher-level criminal matters. At the same time, CSD provides residents with consistent visibility, timely responses and direct neighborhood engagement, helping keep Lomita the Friendly City.

Since its launch, CSD has expanded a range of proactive services across the community. Early efforts included staff training, Neighborhood Watch engagement, senior community meetings, encampment assessments and coordinated outreach and cleanup efforts. The division also introduced a 24/7 graffiti removal service and began offering wellness and vacation checks for residents.

Additional initiatives have focused on coyote management, illegal dumping enforcement and outreach and improved pedestrian safety. The City also adopted the Daylight Resolution and the Oversized Vehicle Ordinance to improve traffic visibility and address neighborhood parking concerns. CSD continues to strengthen crime prevention through coordination with CERT, expanded illegal dumping response strategies and ongoing enhancements to the Neighborhood Watch program.

Looking Ahead: A Safer Lomita

As Lomita continues to grow and evolve, public safety remains a top priority. Through enforcement, expanded community engagement and proactive neighborhood initiatives, the City will continue evaluating and implementing prevention efforts that enhance safety and quality of life.

By combining strong partnerships with LASD, the work of the Community Safety Division and active participation from residents, Lomita remains committed to being a safe, connected and welcoming community.
